What’s a college for, exactly, without some crazy shenanigans?
On April 2, 2009, Rutgers University broke the Guinness World Record for Largest Gathering of people dressed as Waldo. A total of 1,052 Waldos showed, nearly doubling the previous record.
All participants were asked to bring a children’s book to donate and a total of 3,186 books ended up being donated to the public schools in the city of New Brunwick, NJ.
What strikes me as most peculiar is not the number of people who participated, but that they all seem to be dressed in the same clothing — not versions of the same, not just some old red and white striped shirt, but the exact same shirt and hat!
The bigger story may be to find out just where you buy one of these Waldo shirts (and hats). And assuming that each “outfit” cost at the very least $20, someone made a bundle on this.
