Filmmaker Bahram Sadeghi made a six-episode minimovie documentary about Ig Nobel Prize winners. We are showcasing Episode 3 in which Robert Matthews conclusively provides the answer to one of the oldest questions ever: Why does toast most often fall buttered side down?
The winning paper Tumbling toast, Murphy’s Law and the Fundamental Constants takes the reader to the origin of the problem, namely the Big Bang, how the universe was set up in the beginning, and how it would all be different if we were taller as a species. Winner in the field of Physics in 1996.
It is seemingly safe to try this at home, provided you clean up after.
